Crawley Down Gatwick 1-5 Petersfield Town
The Rams returned to winning ways in style as they thrashed fellow play off chases Crawley Down Gatwick on Saturday.
Both managers were calling for a positive reaction after a poor result away to Saltdean United. Goals from Harrison Cable, Brandon Miller, Max Allen and two from Asad Ssemwogerere secured a much needed 5-1 win.
The scoring began early with Kian Towse orchestrating the attack on 8 minutes. Getting down the line he pulled the ball back for Harrison Cable, who marked his 50th Petersfield appearance with the opener, directing the ball home from close range.
Devoid of goal mouch action on Tuesday, there were two goals in the opening 14 minutes today as the hosts capitalised on sleepy defending to equalise. A ball over the top left the defenders short and a well weighted pass across goal left Josh Alder the simple task of prodding home.
Rhys White was inches away from poking Gatwick ahead but at the other end Boluwato Salaam was very fortunate to not see red. Cable broke through on goal but Salaam bundled the striker to the floor. The referee never awarded the foul, only halting play when the linesman flagged. Despite looking like the last man it was only a yellow to the dismay of the Petersfield bench.
Six minutes before half time Ssemwogerere put the visitors back in front. A good ball acros the edge of the box with Cable forcing an advanced Alex Bellingham into a good save, however Ssemwogerere picked it up outside the box and lifted it over keeper and defence and into the net.
The second half saw the visitors turn up the heat of Crawley Down with Miller one of many to have a shot saved. The resulting corner was lofted to the back post, Miller attacked the ball with the defender seemingly getting it off the line, moments later the linesman flagged indicating the ball did cross the line.
Oli Leslie blazed over from six yards out for the hosts as they surrendered their lifeline into the game and from then on Petersfield took control.
Max Allen added the fourth a minute after coming on in the 80th minute, playing their way around the defense, a deflected Ash Leigh shot fell kindly to Allen who dummied the defender and calmly slotted home.
Ssemwogerere finished the scoring in added time, a tiring defence was exposed leaving the striker to round the keeper and roll home to conclude a fruitful afternoon.
